Ray-Ban was founded in 1937 by the American company Bausch & Lomb. The brand is best known for their Wayfarer and Aviator lines of sunglasses, and was pushed to fame in 1983 when Tom Cruise starred in Risky Business. Throughout the movie, Tom Cruise is seen wearing the square-shaped Wayfarer glasses. Sales for Wayfarer sunglasses shot up 50% thanks to Cruise sliding around in his underwear. In 1986, Top Gun was released also starring Tom Cruise wearing the iconic Aviator sunglasses. Sales from this film increased by 40%. In 1999, Bausch & Lomb sold the brand to the Italian eyewear conglomerate Luxottica Group, for a reported US$640 million. Ray Ban has always had the ability to keep a cool eclectic style that just seems to never go out of fashion. Every single day you will see at least 1 person wearing Ray Ban’s.
